Marco Reggiani

Marco is a designer, researcher, and author born in Modena, Italy. He holds a Ph.D. in architecture from the University of Tokyo and a Master’s degree in building and architectural engineering from the University of Bologna. Currently, he is based in Glasgow where he works as a Research Associate at the University of Strathclyde.

Marco’s research interests lie at the intersection between architecture and the urban realm. They include place identity, mobilities, Japanese urbanism, urban form, and design theory. His doctoral research project, funded through MEXT, focuses on the understanding of the relationship between railway infrastructures and place identity with particular attention to the analysis and interpretation of the ambiguous experience produced by Tokyo’s major transit hubs.

Equality, diversity, inclusion, and gender also feature in Marco’s research, especially in their connections with everyday spatial practices and the quality of the public realm.

He is the author of Giappomania by Rizzoli (first published in 2018, illustrations by Sabrina Ferrero). The book has been published in Spain by Lunwerg Editores (Japomanía, 2019), and further translated versions have been planned for the latter half of 2019.
